Japan 2015
Awakening Spring is about the changing of seasons from winter to spring. Lisa was inspired to design this series while living in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan. In Japanese culture precision, dedication, and practice are a priority in art. Lisa focused on specific mark making and patterns within the illustrative characters that appear in the paintings. The Japanese also have a strong connection to nature and animals in their folklore. This connection inspired the imagery of animals and girls, and their relationship to one another. It uses abstract and illustrative stylization to depict flora and fauna in the transition we all take from winter’s bitter cold into the fresh start of spring. This series was created on wooden panels using a mixed media of ink, acrylic and paper.
